Great weekend!

We had a great weekend, featuring a couple of roadfood destinations!  As part of our quest to sample the great hot dogs of the US, we stopped at Wein-O-Rama, in Cranston, Rhode Island, for New York System Wieners, a Little Rhody specialty.  I LOVED this place!  The food was great and cheap!  Between us we got three wieners, a side of fries and two drinks and the grand total came to $12.10.  I will be back there at the next opportunity!

We also indulged in another Rhode Island delicacy, an always great Del's frozen lemonade:

Sunday we attended the Mode Merr Fashion Brunch Spectacular in NYC.  It was a great day of entertainment and shopping at the Highline Ballroom.  We'd never been there before and I was amazed at how inexpensive the food and drinks were (by NYC standards, anyway).  I really hope they do it again next year!

You'd think I'd be exhausted today, but I'm inspired!  I'm working on the symposium I'm teaching at Tiki Oasis, in San Diego, next month.  I have lots more pictures to take, but it's coming together!

Redecorating!

The tikification of the dining room continues, after taking the winter and spring off for other things.  I'm pleased to say that our newly repainted wall has been hung with plenty of stuff, our new canoe carving is up and we're well on our way to being ready for our summer party!  The area pictured will feature either food or a band during the party, depending on the weather.  The bar will be either outside (hopefully) or in the Blue Grotto.  Anyway, behold our progress!

The Wall is painted!

A seemingly simple project turned into a days long odyssey the other day.

We decided to move a large poster out of our dining room and into the office/guest room (the Blue Grotto).  No big deal.  ALL of the moving of wall stuff should have taken maybe 90 minutes, tops, since we had a lot of things on the Blue Grotto wall that had to find new homes.  Well, we took the poster down from the dining room... along with large patches of paint from the wall.  GRRR!  Repainting is always a major pain in this house, since the previous owners used oil paint on every vertical surface and latex paint just peels up like a layer of dead skin without an oil-based primer coat.  So I spackled and primed the bad patches, thinking I'd use leftover paint from when we painted the wall before.  No such luck.  Either I had the wrong paint (unlikely) or it had chemically changed since we'd painted originally, because the newly filled patches were a completely different color from the rest of the wall.  BACK to Lowe's for more paint.  It's finally painted now and, $30 or so later, our "easy," "free" project is at least almost done.  Next up: hanging the stuff on the dry walls that we were going to hang last weekend!
