Pieathalon!

I'm so excited to be participating in Pieathalon this year, in which bloggers make all sorts of pies, from the sublime to the ridiculous! Which type do you think I was assigned? There isn't "kitsch" in our title for nothing! My assignment was to make Swiss Pie With Hot Dogs, because there was a time, not so long ago, when it was believed that hot dogs belonged in everything. In fact, The New Hot Dog Cookbook, from whence my recipe came, was able to find over 250 uses!

This one is a vegetarian's worst nightmare, as it contains five slices of bacon and six hot dogs! It gets its Swiss-ness from the Swiss cheese. The only alteration I made to the recipe was to slightly reduce the amount of cheese involved. As you can probably imagine with that much bacon and cheese, it's pretty good! We'll be freezing this one and consuming it slowly, since it's also a heart attack in a pie plate!

Hooray for Pieathalon! Visit these fabulous blogs to see the rest of the pies!

  1. There's something magical about recipes with instructions like "sprinkle the hot dog pieces."

  2. That really doesn't look bad, but I'm still glad I didn't get assigned a hot dog recipe!

  3. I've been rating how hard it would be to make the savory pies vegetarian since I probably would have tried to vegetarian-ize a meaty pie if I had gotten one. Yours would be waaaay easier that Yinzerella's. There are good veggie bacons and hot dogs on the market. (There are some really terrible ones too, but at least I know which ones are which.)

    1. I was thinking beans would work well, although it would no longer be a hot dog pie!

  4. Blame Dr. Bobb for that one.
I am glad that it was edible. I still can't look at hot dogs after the year of Wiener Wednesdays.
So glad you could join--keep your eye out for future challenges!

  7. Actually this is one of the less evil pies I've seen!
