Barbie's Pink Paradise: The Room

On yesterday's episode we featured the recipe for the drink we served in our Barbie-themed party room at Ohana Luau at the Lake. Here are some photos of the room itself, taken before the sticky madness of spilled drinks, cookie crumbs and all of the other trappings of a successful party. We had a great time! Now, what will our theme be next year...?

Mocktail Monday: Palm Frond

We just returned from Ohana Luau at the Lake and boy, do I need a mocktail! Fortunately it just happens to be Mocktail Monday! Here's one to keep the tiki spirit of the weekend alive, yet allow us to get back to work, the Palm Frond:

Palm Frond

1 1/2 oz Santa Cruz Organic Peach Lemonade
1 1/2 oz R.W. Knudsen Pineapple-Coconut Juice
1 1/2 oz DRY Sparkling Blood Orange Soda
1 1/2 oz Italian lemon soda

Combine all ingredients with ice and stir gently.

Back to reality for us! Be sure to check out tomorrow's episode for the recipe from our Barbie-themed crawl room, Barbie's Pink Paradise!

'Tis The Season for Making Liqueur

Our house is slowly being overtaken by piles of stuff to take with us to Ohana Luau at the Lake, where we will be hosting a crawl room and vending the following day. It's still two weeks off and these piles are growing steadily. I expect to not be able to actually get into the office soon!

What you largely don't see here is the enormous amount of liquor we're taking. Much of it is being purchased for us in New Hampshire, the land of tax-free state liquor stores, but much is also currently in our refrigerator. That is because I've been making liqueur for two separate cocktails. I've already shown the strawberry liqueur here, but here's the melon. They're both equally easy to make. All you need is a little patience and you will be rewarded with a higher quality liqueur than you would typically get for a low price. For the amount of melon liqueur we need it would have been $60. Instead it cost us one cantaloupe and some vodka and sugar, which we already had. If you're interested in making your own, here is the recipe for the strawberry and here is the recipe for the melon. And, coincidentally, on Tuesday's episode we'll be showing how to make your own limoncello!

Almost ready - just strain and add simple syrup!
