Recipes on the Record

Last night we had the good fortune to appear on the fabulous YouTube series "Thrifty Business with Jay and Nay," talking about one of my favorite topics, kitsch!

One of my favorite categories of kitsch is what I think of as "housewife records," and one of my favorite subsets of that is records with recipes on the back cover or inside, if the cover folds out. Last night I made recipes from two different records, including this Pineapple Refrigerator Dessert from the card party-themed album "Foursome."

Of course we need cocktails! We recently discovered this album in a thrift store and it has become one of my favorites. Ready for some "Smooth Sounds" (and smooth drinks)? I won't tell if you don't actually mix with Gordon's. ;)

Have a fabulous weekend!

Everything Old Is New Again

One of my favorite things to do on a busy and stress-producing day is to take a moment to just look around the house and re-appreciate our collections and all we have. When life gets crazy we can sometimes forget to even see it all. Our stuff represents years of collecting and curating and what's the point of having it if we don't enjoy it? Make a drink in that tiki mug or pour some candy into that candy dish or whip up a recipe from that vintage cookbook! It's therapy for $0!

Some of my treasured collections!

Happy New Year!

I hope 2016 is treating you well so far!

I love the feeling of a clean slate that a new year brings. Resolutions aren't particularly my thing, although I do love to set goals! We have some pretty ambitious ones for the show this year, including producing three new music videos and getting our YouTube channel to 10,000 subscribers.  It's not just vanity on our parts. YouTube has an arcane algorithm which ranks channels on watch time and subscriber numbers. If they deem either of those numbers low, you fall in their rankings and it becomes that much harder for viewers to discover your channel. And when that happens it becomes a vicious cycle. Our watch time is excellent (a high percentage of viewers stick around to the end of our episodes), but our subscriber count could be higher. More subscribers means more opportunities for us to spread the love of kitsch and cocktails throughout the universe! So please subscribe to our channel if you haven't already. Click here to go to our channel - the "subscribe" button is red and on the right. And please share with anyone you know who loves cocktails, cooking, kitsch, retro culture or just laughing at the antics of a couple of goofballs. We're so grateful for your support!

Happy New Year to YOU!

New Vintage Recipes!

I added some new vintage recipes to our website, just in time for holiday entertaining! This time we're featuring lighter fare in the form of salads (yes, there's Jell-O involved) and champagne cocktails. Easy and indulgent, two of my favorite things! Here's the link!

Just about anything can be a salad according to this book!
