Rosemary's Baby Recipes

Halloween means horror films and today we have recipes inspired by one of our favorites, "Rosemary's Baby!" We have a Mousse au Chocolat from 1961's New York Times Cook Book, which you know New Yorker Minnie had in her collection, and what has become the definitive recipe for the Vodka Blush, created by our friend and cocktail expert, Peggy Nadramia. We're kicking off Halloween happy hour season with an easy cocktail that packs a knockout punch! (Yes, I cheated on the bobbing for apples.)

Halloween at the Vermont Country Store

We happened to be in Vermont last weekend and the Vermont Country Store was kind enough to allow us to shoot some video for upcoming episodes at their Rockingham location. If you are at all into retro culture or are nostalgic for the trappings of your youth, you would lose your mind at the Vermont Country Store! They have everything from food to home goods to clothing to toys and more, all reminiscent of the past, yet still fabulous and useful. I was enthralled with their Halloween section and came home with some new decor to add to our display, which I'll share as soon as I'm done. Here are some shots of their Halloween offerings. I could go broke in there!

Applejack instead of whiskey?

Fall might mean all things pumpkin, but it also means all things apple, and that includes applejack! According to 1977's The Applejack-instead-of-whiskey Recipe Book, William Laird, of Laird's Applejack, which remains on the market today, made applejack at his home in Monmouth, New Jersey as early as 1698. This tiny tome further claims that George Washington himself borrowed the family's recipe and began making it himself sometime around 1760. Fermented and distilled from apples and lovingly tended night and day, applejack is the perfect choice for fall cocktails! Here are a few to get you started, along with an adult Halloween punch they deemed "very relaxing." Bobbing for apples is a lot more fun when you're bobbing in booze!

The Costume Shop Is Open

Haven't started on our actual costume costumes yet, but I did manage to make matching Halloween outfits for Paul and myself, which will make their debut in our Halloween episode and which we'll be working at StreamCon, a convention for all things online video, which also happens to fall on Halloween. Now I need to get to work on my fascinators!

The painting continues, but fortunately I have Paul's help today. Having him here makes it seem like this job might actually be completed in 2015.
